Writing: Lyre Bird

Lyre Birds Descriptive Paragraphs 8.3.16

Introduction:

The Lyrebird is an amazing Australian bird. It has black and dark brown feathers and it's tail almost looks like a peacock's. It is mostly known for it's unique talent. Which is imitating everything around it. It can imitate strange noises such as a car alarm going off, and the noise of an construction site. It can also impersonate other birds such as the Kookaburra. The Lyrebird can almost imitate anything in the world like children toys and sounds of a camera taking pictures, and up to today the Lyrebird is still an a extraordinary bird.

Middle:

As I stumbled upon a dark eerie forest, I heard a screeching irritating noise coming from the distance. My curiosity hit me. I needed to know what was making that dreadful noise. I slowly gradually walked into the forest and the noise became louder and louder. As I started to get closer I thought of all the possible creatures that it could be. Maybe it was just a person cutting down some trees, but who would be up at this time cutting down trees?  Or maybe it could be an endangered animal like a Panthera Tiger but there are no Panthera Tigers in my country. I started to get even more closer,to the point when I was standing right behind the creature. I panicked quietly. Not knowing what it was I slowly backed away. I quickly hid behind a tree and crouched down. After I calmed down I hid behind another tree which was closer to the creature so I could get a better look at it. After a few minutes, I realized that I was staring at a Lyre Bird. I was shocked. I thought that I would never ever find a Lyre Bird in my life. I slowly grabbed my camera and took a few pictures. The camera make clicking noises and the Lyre bird heard it. Before I knew it, he was imitating the noise of the camera taking pictures. I was amazed.

Now I have found what I was looking for,  I decided to leave the bird in peace. So I walked away and headed back home. I hopped on the car and drove off. Hopefully next time I come to this forest, I will be able to spot the extraordinary Lyrebird once again.

In this activity we had to add or subtract decimals to complete the number conundrum. When I first started I thought it was kind of confusing but after I kept trying and trying I finally got the hang of it. Now I can complete the number conundrum without any help.

1. It cost the Naidoo family of 2 adults and 3 children $61 to go to the zoo. What is the missing price on the board?

14 + 14 = 28     61 - 28 = 33    33 ÷ 3 = $11

2. For 4 days of the week the zoo has a concession for schools. $10 each for the first 100 children and then $12 each for the others. What would a school pay if there are 127 children?

10 x 100 = 1000 so 12 x 27 = 324 so 1000+324 = $1324

3. On a Friday evening  the zoo has a special rate for  school children:for every paid 7 children 2 get to go in free.  What would it cost a school with  147 children?

147 ÷ 9 = 16 r 3  16 x 7 = 112  112 x 11 = 1232   1232 + 33 = $1265

In this game we had to do the Order Of Operations,

and that includes BODMAS. BODMAS stands for..

B - Brackets
O - Order
D - Division
M - Multiplication
A - Addition
S - Subtraction

BODMAS is an Math strategy that can help you figure out some Math questions here is an example.

For me it was very confusing at first because I was new at it, I didn’t really know how I was supposed to use BODMAS but I tried anyway. At first my high score was 1.

I didn’t really mind at first but after I looked at everyone else’s screen they all had more than 1. That's when I really really wanted to try my best to get a better score. After my second try I finally got 3.

For me I think I did better than before because I’m not that good at BODMAS. Next time I’m going to learn more about it and hopefully get a way better score next time.

Maths: Speed Skills 12/2/16

Speed Skills                                                      12 February 2016

Today during math time we went on a math site called “Speed Skills”.

Speed Skills is a website where we can learn our Addition, Subtraction, Mixed Multiplication and Division, Division and Remainder, and Order of Operations. There were also levels that you can click on. I clicked Level 4. When I first tried it was really hard, for me it still kinda is. But I hope I can get better at it soon.

Descriptive Writing: The Moon 25 November 2015

The Moon

One Quiet Night, I dreamt that I teleported back in time to 1969 to an incredible place called the moon. The Moon was a empty rugged deserted place, but yet it was beautiful and antoshing. It was very quiet and peaceful and it was very calm. As I started to explore, I saw two mysterious figures approaching me, but as they came closer I was shocked to see that it was Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins. Neil Armstrong and his Astronaut partner Michael Collins were the first people ever to fly to the moon and come back to earth safely. I couldn't believe my eyes so I started to faint but when I woke up, I was back in 2015, then I realized that is was just all a dream. I was shocked to wake up in my room so suddenly, so I went back to sleep.
