During our first lesson of Food Tech our group made Oreo Milkshakes. When we first arrived we were to wash our hands and put on aprons. The teacher told us a bunch of rules of how everything worked around there. Then, we made the milkshakes. We were also given some responsibilities like washing the dishes and cleaning our bench. At the end of the lesson we got to enjoy our drinks. The drinks tasted delicious and now I can’t wait for the next lesson.

For the reading passage I read all about Origami. I learnt that origami is the art of paper folding and originated from the words “ori” and “kami” which means “paper” and “folding” in Japanese. I also learnt that many people make art papers as hobbies and eventually get very skilled and they sell and make profit off of their origami art. I found this passage really interesting and I hope to learn more about it and maybe even try make some origami art myself.

The wind blew hastily as I stood awake staring at the night sky. The trees and bushes swayed in a rhythm. I stared outside bored out of my mind, wanting to do something exciting. As if everything around me stopped, I crazily came up with the idea to explore. I rapidly did a change of clothes and packed my bag.

I left a note by my bedside table saying I’ve gone out and would be back later. Luckily my parents trusted me enough to leave. I plopped on my shoes and left the door in a tic. I had no idea where I wanted to go or where I was going but I was longing to find something at least exciting. After what felt like half an hour I stumbled upon an eerie looking path. I was out of my mind and so attached to the idea of finding something new and I decided to follow it. The leaves crunched every time I took a step. The wind died down and I could hear everything crystal clear. I could hear the birds squawking and the insects chirping.

I kept walking down the path until I found myself at a run down bridge leading to a weird looking city. The city floated in the air and was at least five feet off the sea level. I had a weird tingling sensation in the back of my legs like my mind was telling me not to go. I didn’t want to leave curious about what was there and what I could find. So I decided to ignore the feeling and slowly walked across the bridge.

The bridge creaked and screamed every time I moved a muscle. The bridge would move every now and then making me question my actions. I stopped midway of the bridge and took a huge breather. I looked up upon my path and studied my surroundings. The city looked quiet but all the lights were blazing and people were walking around. It all looked normal.

I ran across the rest of the bridge and walked to the nearest sign. “Late Lake City” is what the sign read. The sign was dusty and had spider webs covered in it. I brushed it off and read the rest of it. It read that the city was established in 1995 and had been abandoned since then. I was curious to why people still lived there when it said it was abandoned. I walked the rest of the way back and freezed in shock of what I saw.

Walking around the city were things I didn’t expect. Instead of human beings walking around odd hideous monstrous creatures roamed. They walked as slow as snails and nearly all of them were limping. “What are these creatures and why are they here?” I kept asking myself in my head. I hid behind a crowd of bushes and continued to gaze over the things I saw. The villages and houses were in unusual shapes as well. Some were in circular shapes while others were in the shape of everyday items. Every house would be in a different shape and in different colours.

The water from the bottom of the city would cause the platform to move and sway. The creatures who lived there didn’t seem fazed at all. It seemed like it was a thing that happened often and no one seemed or looked worried about it. In the far distance I saw a gathering of creatures. They looked like they were planning something and then my curiosity hit me.

I sneaked my way through the crowds of bushes and made sure to be aware of my surroundings. I didn’t know what these creatures were and what they were capable of doing. Just incase they weren’t friendly with humans I made sure to appear almost invisible. After I got close enough to see what they were doing I grabbed a pair of binoculars that I kept in hand in my backpack and began to look through them. Most of them were blocking my view so I waited for them to clear out. When they finally did I saw a older creature with a spreadsheet spread across a table top.

I strolled my way through still making sure I wasn’t visible. I wanted to know what the spreadsheet was and what they were planning. I walked up behind and accidently tripped over a rock. The collapse caused things behind me to come crashing down making a loud and obnoxious sound.

The monstrous creatures slowly turned around. I started to panic and ran away as fast as I could. I looked behind me and what I saw nearly made me jump. The creatures suddenly came 10x faster and were chasing after me. I turned back around and there were creatures in front of me too. I was cornered in a town I was unfamiliar with. There was no other choice for me but to jump off the platform and swim the rest of the way back.

I wasn’t thinking straight and that was the only option I thought of. I walked to the edge and jumped off. The air around me got colder and everything around me moved so fast. I closed my eyes and then suddenly a cold wet substance started to become my surroundings. I kicked up from the bottom of the sea and doggy paddled my way back to the dock.

My legs were tired and my breathing was heavy. I reached the topic and struggled up onto the platform. My legs were numb from the coldness and how tried they were. My whole body was freezing and my heart was beating fast. Then suddenly everything went black and I passed out.

I woke up with my whole body aching, A blazing light was shining towards me nearly blinding me. I sit up and studied my surroundings. I was still at the dock but the city had disappeared. “Where’d it go” I almost screamed. People stared at me like I was crazy. Instead of doing anymore searching and exploring around, I decided to head back home.

My parents were still out and front door was unlocked and open. I took a very long shower thinking about what had happened the other night. I had so many questions like what were those creatures, what were they doing there, and why did the city suddenly disappear?. All these questions but no answers. I changed into some comfy clothes and plopped down on my bed. My eyes started wandering and then I suddenly fell asleep.

Reading - Inferences Activities 2

In Reading we have been given 6 tasks but we have to choose only 3 activities to complete.

Activity 1:
List 5 eco-friendly ways to control weeds and pests.

  • Plant companion plants - Planting plants like basil, tansy, and marigolds will send a signal for pests and bugs to go somewhere else (companion plants help other plants grow better and protect them from pests as well)
  • Pull them out by hand - It may seem obvious but pulling weeds out by hand is one of the simplest way and maybe one of the easiest
  • Make a solution - Make a solution with about 1 cup of salt and 2 cups of boiling water and mix. Then pour it over gradually over the weeds to kill them.
  • Pour salt - Instead of mixing salt and hot water together you can just pour salt over the weeds and make sure it is equally spread effectively across the weeds and unwanted grass.
  • Baking Soda - You can also sprinkle and spread baking soda to keep weeds and grasses from spreading and growing in between the concrete cracks and in your garden.

Activity 2:
List down the consequences of using toxic chemical to control weeds and pests.

  • Some toxic chemical items don’t really work properly because it does not only killing weeds and pests but it sometimes end up killing other crops and plants too.
  • Some toxic chemicals ends up killing the animals and creatures around the plants. Toxic chemicals are so poisonous that it could end up injuring and hurting animals likes cats, dogs, and birds.

Activity 3:
How could you persuade others to use non-toxic weeds and pests control systems.

  • I could make posters and signs and spread awareness for people, and explain what toxic chemical and control systems actually do to your garden and pets, and hopefully people would speak up and stop using toxic chemicals to control pests and weeds.
