Frozen. I stood there frozen with mixed feelings, fear and wonder. I gazed at the bizarre happenings around me. I felt dazed, as if I was stuck in an dreadful dream. I was scared like a cat.

Cards, some large and some small dance around in front of me like it had a mind of it's own. Confused but yet mesmerised, I began to make my way through the forest hoping that I made the right decision. Step by step I walk as slowly as a snail. “ERRRRR” I heard in the far distance. Chills ran down my back. My heart beat started to run fast. I stopped under a tree. I couldn’t breathe. Gasping for air I gradually started to walk slowly. I sluggishly looked around for help. “Where even am I?” I thought in my head. I looked around for ages hoping to find something but I had no luck. Suddenly I heard the eerie sound that I heard earlier. “Where do I go?”. I ran as fast as an cheetah so I could get to the other side but it was an dead end, I had nowhere to go. The sound became louder and louder and I could sense the creature coming closer. Before I knew it the creature was behind me and I slowly turned around. “CRASH” I woke up in shock. I woke up back in my room. “It was all just a bad dream?”. I got out of my bed shocked.

Introduction: Angel
“Beep beep” The alarm goes off. I suddenly wake up and rushed into the bathroom. Today was the day I competed in a huge tournament against other competitors from around the world. I instantly got dressed and prepared for the most important day of my career. Once I was done, I took an huge deep breath and headed out.

Problem: Nikaya.
Only at that point that I had realise my arrows were missing, if I don’t find them I will be disqualified. My heart sunk, I can’t even think of the numerous amount of people I have disappointed, I am absolutely puzzled where they may be. I tried everything, but my last option was to, retrace where I went.

Solution: Richelle.
All of a sudden I see something in the corner of my eye. There they were my dream savers “I found them, I found them” I quietly said in my head, and It was just in time. I immediately grabbed the arrows and headed out. Whilst walking back, I grabbed my bow and headed down to the arena. I got in position and the games began.

Conclusion: Angel.
As the game had finished, I suddenly looked up towards the scoreboard and there it was 2045, I had set the world record by twenty points.

Geometry: Alien Angles

Geometry: Alien Angles

This math activity is called Alien Angles. In this game a number and a degree will pop up at the bottom, and you have to try and guess the angle. I got it right a few times but it was very hard trying to figure out where the angles where, especially because we couldn’t see the protractor. I got 4 right and a few wrong, but next time I will try harder and hopefully get a better score.

A Letter To Mr. Hendricks

Glen Innes School
Auckland Glen Innes
26 July 2016

Dear Mr. Hendricks,

I strongly believe that the year 7 & 8 students should be able to organize and run the mini olympics for the senior part of the school.

First of all, I think it would be a good idea for us to set it up because we will be able to get a chance to feel what it's like to take leadership and to be in control of something, and then use it in the future.

Secondly, most of the teachers don’t really know the sports that the students like, and when we play the games, we won't put that much effort into it, so it would be a fun idea if we were to be able to pick the sports we really like instead of playing sports that we don’t like.

Last but not least, if we do get the chance to organize the mini olympics, I think it would be good thing to have chance to actually communicate and work together, and maybe even combine our ideas together and learn how to negotiate until we get to an agreement.

Hopefully you will be able to let us organize it, and surely you will be impressed by what we can do.

Yours Sincerely

Richelle from room 7

Math Activity: Zoo Designer

Screenshot 2016-06-09 at 9.32.08 AM.pngScreenshot 2016-06-08 at 10.19.31 AM.png

In this Math Activity I learnt all about Perimeter and Area. I had to make a frame that was either measured with Perimeters or Areas, and I had to get the size right. Each round the game would give us different ways to measure it and different sizes. For example if it said “Required Area: 12” then I would do 2 and 6 yards, because 2 x 6 = 12 but if it was Perimeter then I would have to do 10 and 2 because 10 + 2 = 12. I think Zoo Designer is really cool because it is very fun and at the same time you can learn lots.

Ordering Numbers 24 June 2016

This activity is called “Ordering Numbers”. In this activity you have to put the t-shirts in the right order. The order goes from smallest to biggest. The Special Day: Jump Rope and Hangi

The Special Day: Jump Rope and Hangi

“BRING, BRING,” The bell rang. It was finally time to go skipping. We took off our jumpers and grabbed our ropes, and headed outside of the school hall. One by one each class was dismissed and we slowly walked to G.I center.

As we slowly got closer the butterflies started to kick in. I got nervous, but at the same time I was also excited. We sat down in our places, and waited. First off Mr.Hendricks our principal talked about why we were here and what we were doing. At that moment I started to feel better because we were celebrating all of our hard work and at the same time we were raising money for the heart foundation. I was relieved to find out Room 1 was first. The order went in, Room 12, Room 1, Room 11, then Room 2, Room 10, Room 3, Room 9, Room 4, our class and then last but not least Room 8. After all their amazing performances it was finally our turn. The  butterflies in my stomach started getting crazy. I hoped for the best and got in my position. Before I knew it, it was over. After it was done Mr. Hendricks, let us go one by one. After a long day we finally arrived at school. Miss Terry lined us up outside and slowly called out the juniors one by one to go inside of the hall. Then after she called out the senior classes and walked in. As soon as we walked in we could see the hall all set up. There was chairs and tables all lined up and everyone sat down. The Juniors ate first but it wasn't that long until Miss Lammas and Miss Terry were handing out drinks to all the seniors. After that we some volunteers teachers handed out the food. By the time we all got our food the juniors were finished and they headed outside. We sat down at a table and ate our food. There was chicken, pork, kumara, potato, and mashed potato. The food was very delicious. When we finished we went outside and played.

At the end of the day I thought that this day was really fun, because we got celebrate something that we really worked hard on and got an prize at the end. Hopefully next time we can do it again.

Explanation Writing: Cementing Mug Art

Explanation Writing: Cementing Mug Art

A Cementing Mug Art is a kind of art that could be hung on a wall or given to someone as a gift. It takes sometime to finish but it's all worth it at the end.

Firstly, a long piece of wood is cut into 4 20cm pieces of wood and nail them into a square shape. The frame is to prevent the cement from leaking out and to make it stay in shape.

Then, use tape to tape the frame onto a piece of cardboard which is big enough to fit in a desk. For addition tape on a hook on first so it can hang on your wall or on a door. Make sure you check that the tape is secure and it stuck on well.

After that, grab some newspaper and place it in the desk. Then grab the frame and go outside to start the fun part. Now it's time to make the cement. To make the cement get 3 cups of cement and every now and then add water and mix. Mix until the consistently is like mud. Pour the mixture into the frame and let it dry.

When the cement is dry break off the cardboard and take off the frame as well. Use one of the pieces of wood to smooth down the sides and the edges. For addition paint the cement any colour. But if you like it with no paint, don’t paint it. To make it a little prettier add a flower or some plants into the cup. Now it's done.

In conclusion I think the cement mug art is really pretty and the cool thing is that it was really easy to make.

Explanation Writing: How to play Gutter Board

WALT: Explain how to play gutter board.

Gutter Board is a fun, interesting game that can be played with family members and friends. It involves strategy and teamwork and it’s very easy. It has been around for many years and almost everyone has played it. Here’s how to play it.

To play Gutter Board, it requires to have the right equipment. That includes a gutter board and a small bouncy ball. A gutter board is a board that is made out of wood and shaped into a triangular prism and the ball can be any kind  but to get the best experience I suggest to play with a bouncy ball. A gutter board should be placed in the middle of 8 straight lines. So 4 lines should be on both sides. The 4 lines represent the levels. The levels are 10, 3, 5, and 15. Each line has a level and it represents how many times you’ll have to throw the ball. The first line is 15, the second is 10, the third is 5, and the last is 3. Once it's time to aim and throw the ball onto the Gutter Board keep and throwing the ball until you reach the number of times it has to be thrown. Gutter board can be also played with 2 or more players. The rules are: Can't step over the line when throwing the ball and there is no time limit. The game is over when one of the players reaches the last line and wins. If by any chance one of the players break the rules then the ball will be given to the opponent.

Overall I think Gutter Board is a really fun game, and if you haven’t  been played before you definitely try and consider playing it.

“Tick-Tock-Tick-Tock” I patiently wait for my Jam Turnover to arrive. I look across the room and see the door slowly opening. My mouth starts to water and my stomach fills up with joy. I slowly grab the delicious tissue of goodness and pick up the Jam Turnover. I couldn't wait to take a bite. I slowly grabbed the sweet crunchy substance and pushed it towards my mouth. The gooey apricot jam melted while I took a bite. It tasted like I was in heaven. I took another bite. Before I knew it it was all gone. Now I wish I could go back in time just to eat it again.

My Favourite Lady: My Mum

My Favourite Lady: My Mum May 2016

My favourite lady is my Mum. She is caring, kind and most importantly she is supportive. She loves my siblings and I constantly even if we sometimes fight. And she always looks on the bright side of things.

Her hobbies include giving my siblings and I big hugs, shopping, eating, and cooking, and whenever she cooks my stomach fills up with joy. I love my mum because she puts others first when it comes to anything. My mum is my favourite lady because she takes care of us and she does everything to help us with education. Especially because she didn't get much education when she was young. I definitely think my mum is a role model because she treats other people she wants to be treated and she always bes kind to everyone.

Hopefully when I grow I get to be as amazing as my mum is. And i'm really thankful to have such a grateful mum.

Corn Art Painting 1.4.16

Corn Art 1.4.16

One day last week, I finally finished my Corn Art. The making and the process took kinda long but I finally made it.

The first thing we had too was too sketch and draw our corn on a piece of paper. My one took awhile to draw because I drew my one big.

After I finally finished drawing it I moved on to the painting. I started off with the kernels first because for me that was the hard part. All we had to do for the kernels was to get a dark shade of yellow and paint around the shape of the kernel. Once I was done with that I moved on to painting the background with blue paint. Then after I painted the leaves or the husk different shades of green to give it a cool effect.

And finally I was nearly done. All I had to do now was to let it dry. After a day of drying it was time to do the last step which was to outlining the lines. I just used a black marker to draw along the lines of the corn. After that I was done. It was really fun making it because I think it turned out pretty good and hopefully next time when we do art again we can do something even more fun.

This activity is called “Math Hoops”. In this activity I have to try and solve word problems. I have to use my Division, Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction facts.   This is one of the problems I have to solve.

I knew the number sentence is  72 ÷ 6 = _______
So 12 must be the answer because 72 ÷ 6 = 12. So it would take 12 days for Jack to learn all his lines.

This math site is really helpful if you want to improve your problem solving skills. When I first started I got only 9 right but hopefully next time I can get all of them right.
