Math Activity: Fruit Splash      23 March 2017

During maths time we had to play math games. One of the games we had to play was called Fruit Splash. In the game we could choose a mode to play. I chose Level 24: Which is add 3 fractions with like denominators. Once you press play the game would give you an equation and you’ll have to smash or click the answer. For example if the equation was 1/6 + 3/6 + 1/6 I would have to find the fruit with the answer 5/6 on it. For the timed one I got 66 for my score. Hopefully next time I can get a higher score and even make it on the leaderboard.

Omaru Creek Velocity

Today we went down to look at the speed of the water in Omaru Creek.  We made some paper boats, took it down there and let them sail in the water.  It was great to see the water flowing and not standing still like the first time we went there.

This term our inquiry topic is about saving omaru creek. We chose this because we saw numerous articles about the creek and how polluted it was. There were even blocked pipes and a dead catfish was found. It was a big problem. Since we picked this as our topic it is our job to spread awareness and help Omaru creek be a clean healthy creek again.

This term our inquiry study is about Omaru creek and how we can help save it. The dragonfly plays an important role to creeks so we decided to make a dragonfly. The materials that were used were wires, pom poms, and coloured papers. The process took a while but in the end I was happy with the results.

Descriptive Writing: The Library

“BOOM” I hear in the distance, unfortunately disturbing my reading. I walked slowly to other side of the room where the sound had come from. It lead me to an strange door. I held my hand in front of the doorknob and slowly started to turn it. The door fully opened as I slowly made my way through.

The room smelt of old vintage things and dust. It was an library, but not any ordinary library. The books were stacked and floating in the air. Some were even flipped upside down. I strolled my way through the room until one book caught my eye. I put my hand out to grab it and it stopped spinning. I brought it down to my level and started to read the context. The book was about knights and castles, and as I slowly flipped the page I saw a picture of knights on horses. The picture was still and their legs were in the air.

As I read the first sentence and the picture started to come alive. The horses in the picture started to gallop out of the book. Out of shock I dropped the book. The book close and the horses and knights disappeared. I picked up another book. This one containing snow and rain. I slowly opened the book and looked at it carefully. As soon as I opened the book snow and rain started to fall from the sky. The rain turned into snow mid way. The snow drops hit the ground and smashed into little pieces.
“Richelle, I’m home!”

I quickly close the books and everything disappeared, even the room. I rushed out the door and into my room. I jumped onto my bed and pretended to read an book, just in time for my mum to barge into my room.

Figure Me Out

In class we had to do a Figure Me Out post with only using math questions. I found this really fun and I enjoyed experimenting with different questions I could use. I found that this was a really cool way of getting to know people more, especially because it can help you with your basic fact questions.

As the teacher held the the package in front of my face, I slowly reached inside to get a blueberry. As soon as I grabbed it I could feel a wet substance on my fingertips. I raised my hand closer to my face and smelt a fresh sweet scent. The blueberry felt mushy like a squishy ball. A sour sweet taste filled my mouth, as I slowly bit into the berry. The berry tasted graceful, my face glew up with glee.
