For this term all of the classes at our school had the topic study of Simple Machines. We had been learning about them and we even went on a trip to Howick Historical Village to see how people used and made simple machines back then. On friday we had our very first Simple Machine Expo where we showcased our learning for over the past few weeks.

A few weeks ago we were notified that we were going to have a “Simple Machine Expo” at our school. We were told that we had to make two simple machines or more and a border presentation to explain what we made and learnt. We first got into groups and starting making our projects. My group consisted of Moana, Limi and myself.

We made simple machines that used pulleys and wheel and axles like wells, cars, elevators, a cotton candy machine maker and more using simple things found at home and school. A week ago we all finished our projects and we were ready to showcase our learnings at the simple machine exhibition.

On the day of the expo all of the groups did some finishing touches and finished editing things. We put out projects on display and the first group of classes came to see. Other classes were there and they displayed their learnings as well. The junior side of the school coloured in pictures and they even designed and painted their own t-shirts for display. The senior side made a bunch of simple machines and even made little mini games for us to play.

We made sure everyone who came to our station learnt at least one thing they didn’t know before. The day went through fast and before we knew it, it was time to finish and start packing up. On friday we were also lucky enough to have a hangi as well. In my opinion that day was very fun and I hope we can do another expo before the school year ends.
