Scientific Method: Burning Newspapers

T4W4 : MONDAY
Burning Newspapers
Ask a question:
What will happen when newspapers burn?
Construct a hypothesis (make a guess):
I think it will crinkle up and go in flames, at the end will turn into ashes
Conduct the experiment:
We burnt the newspaper and it turned black and into ashes
Record your observations and data colour change:
As soon as the fire touched the newspaper, smoke and steam escaped from it. The parts that the fire touched turned black and burned, and the fire quickly spread around. Smoke quickly started pouring out and the air filled with the smell of smoke. The smoke and fire continued to burn until water was poured onto the fire. The fire disappeared but smoke continued to come out and a sizzling noise was heard.
Analyse information:
  • Fire was lit onto the newspaper
  • Smoke and steam escaped
  • The fire spread around
  • Water was thrown onto the fire
  • A sizzling noise was heard
  • The fire went out but the smoke continued to come out
  • The smoke disappeared
Report results:
I found that my hypothesis was accurate and correct because I’ve seen newspapers burn before and I know what happens.
